What is your work about? Are there dominant themes?
“Land scape paintings with a musical twist” would be my “dominant theme”
In my major project I have created a series of landscape paintings based on my
experiences of growing up as a teenager that also reference specific songs that inspired
each work which was relevant to my experience at the time.
Picturing my idea, I would create sketches which would add to my initial process.
Each painting will link to a song that was relevant to my experience at the time. The song
or part of the lyric will act as the title of each painting. In each painting are several
references of mood I felt when I was at those places.
Based on good observation and
imagination I create my amazing pieces of paintings. Furthermore, my songs would really
bring out an effect on this painting as they were the songs I did listen to those days.
How do you create your work? What medium and methods/techniques do you use?
Project Aims and Objectives:
Series of 7+ Landscape paintings on A3 canvas
Acrylic/Mixed Media
Working from own photographs/sketches from the environment
City/Urban and rural landscape
Deciding theme: This would be Involving Music - paintings reflect the theme of songs
I would be looking into my teenage years of discovery the songs that influenced me and how these songs would relate to my artworks. The techniques I would be using would be based on my research on Vincent van Gogh as well as David Hockney, who has strongly influenced me. These techniques are stippling, Wash, hatching blending and many more.
Looking up on both artists and techniques to create my paintings. I have
looked at priming and preparing canvases and this has helped how I make my paintings
through understanding the process behind making work on canvas.
This research is contextual to my project because it teaches and helps me to improve on
my painting techniques. In this research I have learned how to apply dry brush strokes to
my work to create a fibre effect, which is good for grasses trees and walls as well.
This research as affected me positively, as of now I feel much confident when painting
because, my frequent attempt has made my brush strokes to appear more vivid.
I now create washes to help in creating reflection of objects
Why do you make this work and what are your influences?
Initially, my research started with David Hockney was my first influence because in his paintings he deals with depth as he works on both canvas and on
iPad, bringing out an individual view of nature. He also makes use of light strokes of
painting which give the rocks and grounds texture, which is really interesting,
because it helps in creating magnificent details which are realistic.
My second Influence was my music because listening to music has helped me to advance in my art career as it helps me in getting inspiration which is a necessity for me to have as an artist to achieve my goal.
Summary
I try with every finished work to improve on my imagination, as i breathe life into my adult life. I aim to improve in this new designs, ideas, innovations, and lifestyle are displayed on my canvas. The challenge, as with any recreated moment from the past, is to not caricature the moment and instead capture it in all its former glory.
My artwork speaks, not only for me, but for people who were also with me which made this a memorable day.
