Art portfolio (3D Art piece) sculpture piece (Part 1)

The Faceless Mother

At the beginning of this I would say say it was a bit difficult for me to to imitate the end of the sculpture. I was unsure what to make so I decided to come up with different drawings. Apparently I'm not a drawing person when it comes to sculpting.
I like to go in head on.

The beginning was quite funny because I had no way of cutting the bottle to the shape I want it. So I went downstairs to my accommodation officer how to get a saw and did a good job by cutting it.

After that I started to bring out the the air-drying clay I had my bust stand ready. Taking out the clay I used a pair of knife, to cut out pieces that I would need.

Then I began see you as my modelling tools to shape and stretch up the clay.

I continued to stretch because I was not getting the shape I wanted, thinking of my mother. Then I began to apply water. This was when i began thinking about the title name it a faceless woman.

As it would seem that I was unsuccessful in making the head shape with the clay that used first I decided to improvise and made a cone shape and using a knife if I cut out another piece and rolled. To fit in the cone.

My idea was kind of blurred, but I made it out just as I expected because this is how I work my things. After fixing the head on the cone shaped point, I realized I had not made the cone wet before attaching the head together.

I went on with the use of my tools to give shape to the head and neck region. Giving it a scull shape, to fit a humans face.

Furthermore, I began adding more water as time went on because it was getting dry by the minute. The use of water at this point really helped in structuring the body figure because I was able to blend smoothly.

Then I carved out some parts to make more defined giving it a proportion. Not only was I using a subtraction method I was adding a little bit to make it more precise.

Carving out the head shape I thought of making a scarf, although it was a bit difficult for me to think clearly about the face. So I decided to make it faceless, as I cut out pieces and keep applying on to cap shaped like object I placed on her head.

Then I kept on applying little touch over the work to give it a bit of texture.

  1. I'd like to hear a little more about how this relates to the other pieces of work you have been working on for this project and how you are going to complete the 3D piece. It might also be worth talking about how you are going to photograph it for your presentation on your website, in terms of the different angles you could use in order to get the best out of what you have made.
Finally, are you going to decorate this piece, because you could use similar techniques to paint the piece as you have in the paintings you have made so far.
